Baytree & Budd is a premium range of culinary gourmet products lovingly made by the Budd family in Te Kauwhata, a small village nestled in the heartland of the North Island.
Baytree & Budd's commitment is to have an exquisitely packaged gift line which not only looks fantastic, but brings flavours reminiscent of decades ago in Grandma's kitchen, where foods were made without preservatives, additives or colouring, and made in small batch quantities.
Twenty years ago the Budd Family moved to a dairy farm in Te Kauwhata, a small country village within the heart of the Waikato.
Trish had always had a romantic vision of a small cottage surrounded by a herb garden.
A derelict cottage on the property was to fulfill this dream, with the help of husband Ian and family of five .
This became the first home of Herb Haven product and led on to the exclusive gift line Baytree & Budd.
Herb Haven product was sold to stores throughout New Zealand and then to Australia (David Jones) and New York (Dean & Deluca).
The business quickly outgrew the small cottage.
We were at this time establishing one of the largest Herb Gardens in New Zealand.
An old villa was then relocated to reside adjacent to the garden. This was refurbished and became the home of "Herb Haven".
The business became a destination renowned for the unique experience of guided garden tours accompanied by Victorian teas.
Herb teas and lavender scones were served with specialty jams and cream with edible flowers and presented on antique cake stands.
Trish won the Women in Business Award in 1995.
Ongoing publicity and word of mouth spread
After years of successful operation mainly from word of mouth, ongoing SH1 roadworks restricting access meant a change of direction.
The villa is now operating as a boutique Herb Garden Bed & Breakfast, from which the product can still be purchased.
Trish's son Shaun returned home to pursue a dream of marketing one of the most popular products from the range, 'the famous' Garlic Sauce.
Thus relaunching the exclusive Baytree & Budd label.
