Charlemagne Lodge is a taste of the past with all the conveniences of the present. The elegant Victorian house is a Bay of Plenty landmark building, on an elevated site over looking the adjoining I’Anson nature reserve and lake. The Lodge is situated in the sunny Bay of Plenty, renowned for its high sunshine hours, stunning beaches and beautiful countryside.
This haven of tranquility is only 2 hours from Auckland, and 45 minutes from the Maori heartland of Rotorua, making it a perfect touring base.
Conveniently located on State Highway 2, this gracious building is just 10 minutes from the centre of Tauranga with its fine bars and restaurants, and nestles between the world renowned vineyards of Mills Reef and Morton Estate. Several golf courses are nearby and the unforgettable coastline and beautiful beaches are within easy reach, including the stunning Mount Maunganui beach popular with sun worshippers and surfers alike.
The spectacular house with its many original period features offers exceptional accommodation, and the perfect backdrop for wedding photographs. Whilst the attractive function centre in the grounds, with its large patio and pond provides the ideal venue for any special occasion and can accommodate up to 120 guests.

We can attend to your dinner reservations, or book local attractions and activities while you unwind, with a welcoming glass of wine in the beautiful turret room, or sit by the wishing well and feed Lucy, the resident hen.
Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
The Lodge has many original Victorian features, and each room is decorated in a style sympathetic to the Victorian era. The downstairs area features Kauri floors and Kitchen, a comfortable lounge with open fire, dining area and generous balconies with access to the extensive grounds and gardens. We have four guest rooms in the Lodge, one of which is on the ground floor.
The principle master suite features an ensuite bathroom with claw foot bath, and direct access to the extensive balconies. Adjoining the suite is a lounge with doors to the turret area, where breakfast can be enjoyed together with spectacular views of the reserve and surrounding countryside. The second master suite (on the ground floor) offers a private bathroom with many period features including a roll top bath.
A further double and a twin room are offered on a shared bathroom basis. Rates are from NZ$130 plus GST per room - including continental breakfast.
Special Occasions
The Lodge can also be used for small private dinner parties, for up to 12 guests, for which we are happy to arrange catering to your taste and budget. From murder mystery dinners to corporate entertaining we will be delighted to discuss your requirements.
The function centre can be used for larger events, of any type, from team building to product launches.
