In 1983 Derek Mullooly established his own Log Home Building Company in Rotorua and has successfully completed many log buildings for both the domestic market and for export markets.
NZ Log Homes sawmill produces speciality Douglas fir timber beams up to 12 metres in length and housing components including Lawson Cypress sarking and weatherboards.
The NZ Log Homes are made from hand-crafted logs around 250mm SED. The notching system used is the Norwegian 'shrink to fit' notch as this unique notch allows for a tight fit. Along the bottom of each log a lateral groove is scribed and cut out to fit the contour of the log below. This groove allows for a foam rubber insulation strip to ensure a tight seal.
The logs are mainly Douglas Fir or Lawson Cypress. The log homes are pre-built in the company yard then the logs are numbered, disassembled and transported to the clients site for re-erection.
NZ Log Homes provides in-house architectural services. The owner works closely with his clients from design to completion resulting in a unique home to suit the needs of you and your family.
